Does anyone still drink Soy Milk?

I drank soy milk for years, until I read the controversy about it now at Natural News I now drink Rice Milk and it tastes okay, probably nicer than soy milk anyway. Just wondered how other people ... Continue

Is All This Blood Sending The Wrong Message?

So, I taught my second official class today. I was very excited, because the class was full, and one of my buddies from our Tuesday night class was dropping in. So, as I'm setting up, she asks me "Did you hurt yourself?" and points to the back of my shoulder which, unbeknownst to me, is bleeding. Profusely. I got them settled and started the warmup while I cleaned the cut and put a bandage on it. But it bled through the bandage. So, a few minutes later, I put my cute little workout jacket on. An… Continue

How to make Exercise Fun

I love contests, so I decided to participate in two blogging contests that are offering a bike giveaway.

As you can see, bikes are popular in my neighborhood. Bike commuting is common in Southern California because of our great wea…

Water or Coke?

I picked this one up in my chiropractors office the other day. There is no author but someone deserves high credit for this! I'm sure Al Sears, MD would give this a five star! WATER 75% of American's are chronically dehydrated. In 37% of American's, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3% One glass of water shut down midnight hunger pangs… Continue

Quinoa

I finally remembered to look for and buy some quinoa. Having no experience at all with this product, I took a handful out of the bag and popped it in my mouth. It was quite chewy and actually quite good. I then decided to look up online how to use it. haha. I found out it is supposed to be cooked. Today I rinsed and washed it and then cooked it in my rice cooker. It smelled so good while cooking and tastes delicious. I just had a spoonful to taste it. I will have some more later. It's yummy!

R.I.P. Vita-Mix Maxi-4000

The Vita-Mix is one of those appliances that if you love and use it every day like I did, you will mourn its demise. Well, I loved my 20 year old machine enough to write a little review / obituary for it! A blender that makes super smoothies, juices fruits and veggies, purees a nice hummus, grinds flax seeds, grinds wheat berries to flour, makes wonderful fresh applesauce, healthy frozen desserts and will cook you a… Continue

What Keeps You Motivated?

For those of you who have been living a healthy lifestyle for a long period of time, how do you stay motivated? I myself worked really hard to drop about 26 pounds the first 6 months of last year. Then life happened (my family relocated to another city due to a job transfer) and I went back to my old eating habits for the next 6 months. Starting in January of this year, I reinvented my "diet" and began living a healthy lifestyle again. Now, about 4 months into it, I am thriving with my exercis… Continue

Long overdue update.

I have been so busy that I really haven't had a lot of time online. I get on the computer in the afternoon and when I get home from work, but often drift in and out of sleep while trying to read and respond. I'm keeping up with my daily blog on Fire and Ice, sometimes by combining it with my Wordless Wednesday and Thursday Thirteen. I want to do the Wordless Walkers Wednesday, but have yet to start it. Maybe this week. Our weather has been less than cooperative. I'm finally getting on board with… Continue

Some Things I Believe

Diets don't work in the long term. Everybody's different. Whole, organic food tastes better. It's not only what you eat, but how you eat that matters. Baby steps climb mountains - they're the only way I've found to create lasting change. Everything we take in can be nourishing - food, relationships, careers, exercise routines, everything. Everything we take in can be depleting - food, relationships, careers, exercise routines, everything. It's all connected - imbalance in one area can cre… Continue

The 7.3 secrets of raising children

Although many kids feel they are raising their parents (http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename= JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull&cid=1192380814685), we have the ominous task of raising the next generation of hard working, moral, and table-mannered citizens. Parenting is both the most difficult and the most rewarding profession on earth. It is riddled with a mixture of joy, sadness, and the constant worry that one of our children will end up being a game show host. Here are the 7.3 sec… Continue

Do you have a favorite Movie Song to exercise to?

I’m a big fan of movie music, which I think is an underappreciated art form.

Can you imagine what your favorite movie would be like without the music? Thrillers, dramas, horror, or even romantic movies wouldn’t be the same without the background music. Think about the scenes of Jaws, where the shark is attaching without the music:…

Can You Become a Creature of New Habits?

From the New York Times: Habits are a funny thing. We reach for them mindlessly, setting our brains on auto-pilot and relaxing into the unconscious comfort of familiar routine. “Not choice, but habit rules the unreflecting herd,” William Wordsworth said in the 19th century. In the ever-changing 21st century, even the word “habit” carries a negative connotation. So it seems antithetical to talk about habi… Continue

My Butt Has Been Thoroughly Kicked.

By P90X Back and Biceps. Was I lifting huge amounts of weight, you ask? NO! I used 8 and 10 pounds! SHEESH! I'm such a wuss, lol! But I started teaching my class last Friday, and I've got a great group o' gals! I rode my bike to and from the gym, and it was so much fun! I think I'll keep doing that as long as the weather's good. But I think I need some padded shorts. The padded liners just aren't cutting it! Is that TMI?

The Love of my Life

One thing that I really want to say is that I would not have made it through the last few months if it had not been for my Lord. There were many times that I prayed, " I need some help here Lord, I don't think I can do this for one more minute." He always came through for me. In the moments when I am not sure I can live my life alone a quiet voice in my head tells me I am never alone. When I feel that my heart will break from loneliness He holds me in His arms and comforts me. When it feels as… Continue

LIving the Grownup Life

It is another great day to be alive. Abraham Lincoln said something like this, "Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." Well, I believe that to be true and try hard to live by that. Of course, I am not always successful but most days I can say that is how I live. I will get some pics of Betty soon. She is a tiny black kitten who picked me instead of the other way around. My daughter's cat had kittens and I had planned on taking the gray one but little Betty had other p… Continue
