I just posted 2 blogs about diet pills being recalled. I find it despicable that companies can put these on the market knowing they have prescription medication in them without the FDA knowing about it. If they use the name supplement the FDA does not test the finished product unless something happens to someone. Whats you take on this? I feel that all things, Rx or not should have to be tested before being allowed to be sold.

Are you talking about the Brazilian diet pills that were being imported by these back alley shops in Massachusetts and sold under the counter? That's all I could find on this.

If so, my only thought is that anyone can sell anything to anyone in this country, at least for a short period of time until the market discovers that the product is crap or even poison. Nothing is risk proof, and the Feds cannot inspect all merchandise that gets shipped to this country. That would be next to impossible, even with a huge budget. So you go with the notion that the marketplace will eventually--hopefully quickly--call attention to an illegal product or operator, which will eventually get shut down and prosecuted. The buyer must always beware, especially with anything they put in their body.
The 2 that were recalled were sold OTC, and are being recalled due to the fact that they contain undeclared prescription medications. They are marketed as Dietary Supplements, and Weight Loss Pills. I market vitamins myself and have read up on the process in which dietary supplements are monitored. The FDA must approve the ingredients separately in these pills, but not the finished product itself. If the individual contents have been deemed safe, they are able to put the labels "vitamins, supplements, ect." on them without approval of the finished product. Under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), the dietary supplement manufacturer is responsible for ensuring that a dietary supplement is safe before it is marketed. FDA is responsible for taking action against any unsafe dietary supplement product after it reaches the market. Generally, manufacturers do not need to register their products with FDA nor get FDA approval before producing or selling dietary supplements.* Manufacturers must make sure that product label information is truthful and not misleading. (Rest of info from FDA page) The 2 that were recalled are Zhen De Shou Fat Loss Capsules
and Starcaps Dietary Supplement Capsules. These are both listed as OTC dietary supplements.
