Iowa Avenue

It looks nasty but trying to do my body right. Anything special I should know about purchasing dried fruit, or is it all the same? I'm shopping this weekend. What tastes the best?

I won't buy dried fruit unless is for baking. Dried fruits carry more calories and sugar than the fresh ones in addition to preservatives probably... Fresh is best!

Anyway, I found an interesting document for you. It is a PDF file.

Let me know what you think :)

Ah. Sugar. I'm glad I asked. After reading the attachment I think I get my picky 4 year-old to try. AND I've never tried a date for fig in my life (fig newtons don't count). I'll do that this weekend! thanks!
I agree that fresh is best! Although, we have been known to eat dried fruit around here - I have two young boys that keep me running. I would rather they grab a package of dried fruit than a package of chips. Brothers-All-Natural is a brand that we have found and really like - the only ingredient is the freeze-dried fruit, nothing else is added. I just did a quick search on the USDA database to see the sugar comparison between the freeze-dried ones I have here versus eating the raw equivalent and the sugar content was about the same (the raw version has a touch more). Hope that helps!
Thanks! I'll remember that brand name.
