I'm a web publicist for a big book publishing company. I have a husband and a 12-month-old son. I was blessed with good genes that carried me through my early 20s. While I did exercise, I ate a lot of food (a mix of healthy and unhealthy ones), drank a LOT of coffee, and smoked a pack a day.
As I upped my exercise regimen, I lessened my smoking and by the time I got married at 25, I had considerably reduced my smoking and managed to quit completely shortly thereafter. My metabolism slowed, so I couldn't maintain my weight as easily, but I still wasn't the least bit overweight (just lazy).
I gave birth last year and while I immediately lost 20 lbs., I haven't loss the excess 10 lbs., my eating habits are awful, and I still hadn't gotten back to the habit of exercise. I've quit smoking for the second time (shortly after I found out I was pregnant) and for the New Year, my husband and I have decided we would take a more proactive approach to a healthy lifestyle, not just for ourselves anymore, but also for our child.
We've decided to eat healthier and motivate one another to exercise. I still don't quite know how we're going to do it seems it seems like between our jobs and the baby, we can't find the time and energy for it, but we thought we'd start easy. We'll start eating healthy (I'm eating a salad right now) and I figured I'd start alternating crunches and the elliptical trainer in the morning. This means I have to wake up 30 minutes earlier (5 AM), but nobody said it was going to be easy.
