Mamma Always Said, "Chew Your Food Slowly..."

And you know what? She was right. A recent survey found that people who scarf down food until they feel they are full are 3 times more likely to be overweight.

So, it's not just what we eat but how we eat that makes a difference in our midsections. Think back to your last meal...did you eat it on the run, like when you were driving your car? Or, while watching tv or checking your email? Did you eat all of… Continue

Sugar and Sodium - Which Cereals To Keep Your Eyes On

A new Consumer Report issued yesterday, revealed ratings for popular cereals that are high in sugar content. Golden Crisp and Honey Smacks were rated among the worst as being more than 50 percent sugar per serving -- that's about as much sugar as a glazed doughnut! Nine others that were studied are made up of at least 40 percent sugar.

In addition… Continue

The Olympic Spirit

Many of us have been reeled into watching in awe as athletes from around the world compete in the Summer Olympics in Beijing. It's amazing to think of how much time, training, and preparation each Olympian has invested for their chance to prove that they're the best.

How many times as a kid did you watch the Games and throughout the day and evening pretend that you were an Olympian and try to imitate what you saw on tv? Take some of that childhood imagination and translate that into… Continue

Navigating the Bountiful Buffet

Have a Plan

If you’re able to find out ahead of time what the restaurant’s offering, decide what you want to eat before you go. That way, you’re not starving and making decisions on an empty stomach when EVERYTHING looks good! Some major chain's have nutrition information online that can help you determine the offerings that best fit into your eating plan. If the restaurant doesn't have nutrition information posted, go to My Pyramid, where you can access a list of nutritional… Continue

Stand Tall

One of the questions I get asked most often by clients is how to improve posture. Many of us are troubled by back pains, and on top of that, we're reminded just how bad our posture is when we come across a picture of us showing the unflattering truth. Our Grammie's voice pops into our head saying "Stop slouching. Straighten up your back."

Grammie has a point. If you think about it, imagine how much better we view our selves and others who stand tall and walk proud. Not only does good… Continue

Hi Jen, I have visited Des Moines all my life. My Uncle, Frank Obraza was the head Golf Pro/Manager at Waveland G.C.for over 40 years. When he retired they lived in Urbandale until he passed away a few years ago. I have family all over Iowa and simply love the lifestyle the Midwest offers versus this crazy SoCal lifestyle LOL!
You may or may not be interested but I take supplements from the company Life Force International. These products reduced the pain and inflammation in my back(after 4 surgeries and a two level lumbar fusion) about 70% in 3 months. I have a friend who is a personal fitness trainer who taught a spin class and was wearing a knee brace for six months and contemplating surgery, Valerie tried 3 of the Life Force products and her knee pain disappeared and she was able to go back to teaching her spin class and avoid surgery. Here is the link to the website Liquidhealth4u
Take care Jen

Thanks. But better than the streets is the beach. I'll be walking there later in the week and taking some pictures.

I'd love to see pictures of your walks or hikes...........:)
