Profile Information

About Me:
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately one in four Iowa women age 40 and over will not receive a mammogram in the next two years. The American Cancer Society wants to know why.

Mammotives.org is a forum for Iowa women, age 40+, to talk about what influences their decisions to get recommended breast cancer screening (routine mammograms). Participation is easy. During October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Mammotives team will be posting a series of questions about mammograms and other health behaviors to the website, www.Mammotives.org. Readers are invited to respond to blog posts and to other guests' comments.

By analyzing the comments received on the Mammotives blog, Facebook page and Twitter feed, the American Cancer Society hopes to gain insight about what keeps some women from accessing recommended breast cancer screening. The discussion on Mammotives.org will help promote the future health of Iowa women. This simple social media project will ultimately help save lives.

Iowa women age 40+ are encouraged not only to join the online discussion, but also to spread the word about Mammotives. Tell your family, friends, and colleagues about the project. Feel free to forward information about Mammotives to business and personal email distribution lists. Don't forget to 'Like' the Mammotives facebook page and to follow Mammotives on Twitter (username: mammotives).

The Iowa Cancer Consortium would like to sustain enthusiasm for breast cancer awareness beyond the 31 days of October. With support from the American Cancer Society, the Consortium has created an online forum—“Mammotives”—where Iowa women ages 40+ can talk about their experiences with breast cancer…
