Saving Lives One Mile At A Time

Here we go again! I finished my first half marathon in April. I was a participant with Team in Training and trained for a half marathon and raised $2100 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The feeling of being part of something so big and so fun and so motivating is addictive. As soon as I finished my first half marathon, I signed up for another. I'm going to do the Rock N Roll San Antonio in November with my daughter. Training has been hard… Continue

Fat Girls Need Workout Clothes, Too

I am a plus size girl. Size 18-20 to be exact. I am supposed to be training for a half marathon. I have had several setbacks - including surgery - but I am ready to get back in the groove, now. I mean, the marathon is less than a month away, I don't think I really have a choice. But I'm having a hard time finding clothes to wear. When I go to the sports stores they have really cute stuff. Stuff that only fits the people who already have the body I want. How do people expect us fat girls to lose… Continue

Half Marathon - It seemed like a good idea 3 months ago!

So, as some of you know, my stepson Casey was diagnosed with Lymphoma last year on his 6th birthday. It was a pretty tough 6 months for us. He is done with chemo and is currently in remission, but watching what he had to go through and seeing the other kids at the hospital fight for their lives really made me want to do something real with my life. I was the captain of "Casey's Cruisers" in the Light the Night walk benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma… Continue

Bringing Sexy Back!

Ok, so I haven't really blogged or posted here for a while and I decided that I needed to get back in the swing of things, for crying out loud! I have made tons of empty promises of a gorgeous, hot bod and not giving up this time and blah blah blah. Well, this time I mean it. I'm actually keeping up with my food journal, exercising 5 days a week (last week I did 6 just for the fun of it!) and making sure I write on my blog (www.worldinsidemyhead.com) as much as possible - not skipping more than… Continue

Fun Suckers

One of my very favorite things in the world to do is go to the movies. I absolutely love it. When I was single I would go to 2-3 movies in a row by myself. People don’t understand how I can go to the movies by myself. It’s really not a big deal. It’s dark so no one even notices anyway. And no one is there to talk through the entire movie while you're actually trying to watch the movie. This year was my five year wedding anniversary and my husband and I decided not to get each other gifts.… Continue

Thanks! Yea! Someone is reading my blog! :) I will definitely post that here. It is VERY shocking to read the info on the things that we eat mindlessly while sitting on our butts in a movie theater for 2 hours!

I just opened my e-mail and my daughter sent me a link to an article in Men’s Health. It was titled “6 Worst Things to Eat at the Movies”. Uh oh is right. I mean, I knew movie popcorn was bad, that’s why I have always avoided seeking out the nutritional values for this bit of salty goodness. But this is ridiculous. I am going to share this list with you along with the numbers they gave. Try not to have a heart attack.

Large Popcorn
1,283 calories
78 g fat (49 g saturated)
1,850 mg sodium

Large Nachos with Cheese (40 chips, 4 oz.)
1,101 calories

1,580 mg sodium

Snickers Popables (5 oz., 46 pieces)
692 calories
33 g fat (14.6 g saturated)
73 g sugars

Whoppers (5 oz. box)
676 calories
24 g fat (20.3 g saturated)
88 g sugars

44 oz. Cherry Coke

Rachyl,
I have dealt with not accepting myself for a long time and now it's my passion to share with others the things I have learned about how to find true self acceptance and love. I wish you the best as you work towards losing weight and finding self esteem. I know first hand that it's hard to get to a place where you REALLY accept yourself, but with a lot of work on your mindsets, you can get there.

Liz,
Thank you so much for your encouragement. I really want to lose the weight, but you hit it right on the head...mostly, I want to like myself and love myself. I always feel that if I can do that first, then I'll respect my body more and I will be able to lose the weight a lot easier. Problem is, every time I try to be positive and like myself, I jump back into my old habits of mean thoughts and ugly words. Right now I am in the middle of some family issues - I'm not sure if you have read my blog at www.worldinsidemyhead.com - but now is the perfect time for me to get back in the swing of things. I tend to forget about myself and focus on everyone else. But how can I take care of everyone else if I can't take care of myself? Thank you so much for your message. I keep telling myself to get back on the internet and my blog and get back into the swing of things and this is a good start.
