I will be 48 at the very end of the month. My face doesn't show my age at all. However, I still have size 12 dresses in my closet. Diabetes runs in my family. I do not want to get diabetes because it can affect ones eyes and feet. Having worked at Joslin Diabetes Center at one time, I know how it can affect your entire life. Therefore, I want to lose weight for health reasons and for a little vanity. I would like to be able to buy a cocktail dress once I reach my goal weight.
What are your goals?
I have a lot of weight to lose. I would like to get some easy, and healthy recipes to make at home for my husand and me. I used to really like to cook at one time. Now I have become very lazy.
Favorite Music:
Classic Rock, Jazz, R&B, Pop, The Blues, New Age, Some of the new music of today such as: Alicia Keys, Nora Jones, John Mayer, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis.
Favorite TV Shows:
Ugly Betty, Monk, The CSI Series, The Law & Order Series, Dr. Who, Torchwood, ER. Also, many of the shows on The Biography Channel, Animal Planet and the Disney Channel.
Some of the classic T.V. shows I still enjoy from the 60's are: Hogan's Heroes, "F" Troop, The Avengers, Mission Impossible, The Fugitive, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Girl from U.N.C.L.E., & Get Smart.
What is your current exercise routine?
When I can, I do yoga, Zumba, and pilates. I do walk on the treadmill and lift weights using the machines at the gym. My husband and I have taken a Tai Chi class together. I would love to find a friend for some powerwalking. I would love to find a local class which teaches Krav Maga (martial arts taught in the Israeli Army). At some point, I would like to take up Bellydancing again, and learn to do Ballroom, Swing, Latin Style Dancing.
What diets have you tried?
Diet Workshop and Weight Watchers. When I was 12 (way back when I was in W.W.). This is due to my older sister. When I was in 19 and in college I was a W.W. member and did get to goal and became a Lifetime Member.
In spite of most W.W. members being a fan of "Flexpoints," it's much too stressful to me to constantly have to write down the points. I'm not one really to plan out what I will eat the night before or to do meal planning for the week. I have some other things in my life right now which is also creating some stress. I know that's why I haven't been able to get to goal weight.
While I do like the "Core" Plan to some degree, there is too much going on my life to make certain that I stick to the basics of this plan. Plus for those of you who are familiar with the "Core" Plan, if I want to eat anything outside of "Core," again, I have to count those "darn" 35 bonus points for the week. Can one ever win!
I would consider the South Beach Diet, except those first two weeks you're on it, sound like you are at "BootCamp." I do like to eat fruit, and I still like to eat bread and potatoes. Is there any hope for me? Please, help!!!!! I don't want to be, yet, another overweight, middle-aged (I'm really cute, though), American.
What things do you want to do before you die?
To do some more traveling in the U.S. and abroad. To become more fluent in speaking French and Spanish. I would like learn to speak conversational Hebrew. I know how to read, and write it from attending Hebrew School as a kid.
I would like to start sailing again! I love sailing and I really miss it. I tried windsuring once and would like to become good at it. I would like to learn how to water ski. I think I would prefer to move to a warmer climate, so that I could enjoy the ocean more often. I could also go swimming whenever I wanted. I'm not a good swimmer. I would like to take swimming lessons.
I would also like to learn how to make pottery on the wheel, learn how to paint/draw using all types of media, crochet, macrame, embroidery, crewel, candle making, making beaded, and sterling silver jewelry (I did this at one time).
To have a kitten or two. To either foster or adopt a
child(ren).
What is your favorite book?
The Harry Potter Series, Tuesdays With Morrie, The Five People You Meet In Heaven, For One More Day (All By Mitch Albom)
Rosalind, it's great to see so much detail in a profile. I feel like I know you already. Thanks for sharing. BTW, what part of MA are you from? I've been there many times, love Boston; actually I love the whole New England area.
