Commitments

I really just need to make a commitment to myself and to the other people in this community. I feel that if I don't I will not take my goal of being healthy and 40 lbs thinner seriously.

I sometimes wonder why at times in my life it is very easy to get serious about my weight and other times I just can't grasp it. Is it that I really don't want to lose the weight ? Or is it that I don't want to do the hard work. I think that is part of it. I just don't want to deny myself the little… Continue

I'm On A High!

I'm on an exercise and diet high right now. I have been doing SO well for the past couple weeks. The poundage is going down (slowly but surely, at the rate of about 1 pound a week) and I've been feeling really good. I have more energy, I'm more productive during the day and sleep better at night, and I fit into jeans that I haven't in a while.

My goal is to get down to my all time adult lowest weight (129). Actually screw that, I want to go big...I want to get down to 128, set a new… Continue

Good Morning

I hope this little bear helps make you all feel warmer this cold, snowy, blustery day. (It says 'Carla' because that's who I am in real life.) ;D

I have been inspired by reading all the posts this morning. Christine - I'm sorry to tell you that there are people here. I, for one, love reading your posts. I look forward to hearing your progress each day. In fact, you have…

Will knowing the calories in fast food effect your choices?

New York City has again tried to get major restaurants to put their calorie numbers on their menus. Most chains already have this information available, either at the restaurant or on their websites.

My Motivation......

I bought this shirt a couple of years ago. When I bought it , I thought(mentally) it would fit me since it was in my size. Well , I brought it home , tried it on ,and I couldn't get my arms through the sleeves. I was never able to wear it. So now this shirt has become "my motivation" to lose the weight.

Here I am 2 years ago. It was August of 2005…

Winter in Wisconsin

I am really getting tired of snow and cold. It has been an especially hard winter this year. This morning the electricity was out for an hour.

My moods are really affected by the lack of sunshine. I know I can get a light machine but I really just miss being outside each day. I am also tired of my living situation and am anxious to move on down the road. I will be glad when Spring arrives and I can move on.

I have been gone all day today so I have not exercised. I am now feeling too… Continue

Sugar: The Sweet Taste of Addiction

I used to be annoyed when people talked about being "addicted" to

things that aren't physically addictive. Call me the word police, but

it muddies the understood definition of a word when people use that

word to mean whatever they want it to mean. That said, I'm getting over

it - especially when it comes to addiction.

(add knowledge and stir)

When I was in school studying psychology, I learned about a concept called a "process addiction." Simply… Continue

Fructose Malabsorption

I've suffered off and on my whole adult life with digestive problems. I had my gall bladder removed when I was 27 - that improved a lot of things. I was diagnosed in 1983 with chronic pancreatitis. That explained a lot. Over the course of several years the pancreatitis was eventually brought under control with pancreatic enzymes and some sensible food choices. But, I was still plagued with frequent diarrhea. Last September I got a parasite - cryptosporidium - from my grandchildren who got it at… Continue

Two Fat Brothers. Only One Can Be the Weight Loss Challenge Champion

So my brother challenged me to a weight loss competition this New Years. He knew I had worked a little bit last year to get into better shape, and he had similar goals. Why not have a friendly competition. Let's see who can lose the most by April 1st?

This was how our little contest started, four weeks ago. We decided to make our little contest public, so we set up a little blog at TwoFatBrothers.com. A month has gone by and we've had some great… Continue

Word of the Day

I have chosen two words for today. I couldn’t decide between them and choose just one.

First: kibitz (from Dictionary.com)

1. –verb (used without object) - to act as a kibitzer

2. –verb (used with object) - to offer advice or criticism to as a kibitzer: to kibitz the team…

Being awake while living my life

The last few days I have had a lot of pain in my hip and really did not want to exercise. I know that I feel better when I do but that is not always enough motivation. I did exercise today and had a great workout. Did I have pain ? yes - but I would have whether I exercised or not. Don't worry, I did not overdo it. I know my body well and know how far I can push it.

What I really like about this community is the support I get from the other members. Even on the days that I do not… Continue

The Drinking Game

Back when I was in college, we used to play tons of drinking games. Actually found this site Drinking Game as a way to drink. I decided to try this as I was riding my elliptical. I took a bottle of water and ran out within the first few minutes. Couldn't tell you how many times I chugged, but I know I'll be getting up to go to the bathroom more than once tonight.

I actually enjoyed the State of the Union as my drinking water and riding the… Continue

The last day and a half I spent a lot of time eating too much and feeling overwhelmed. I feel better emotionally today but my stomach is a little upset. I have always turned to food when life got rough. I suppose in some ways food has been my savior. Without food I don't know how I would have coped. I do not believe that was the right way to cope but it was the only thing I knew how to do at the time. As they say "when you know better, you do better." Most of the time that is true but it wasn't… Continue

The I Love Me List

1. What do you absolutely love about your body?

Not much these days. I sometimes feel as though my body has betrayed me. It doesn't act at all the way I expect it to. However, I like my feet and my legs - I carry all my extra weight on my torso, so my legs have remained thin (maybe too thin?) and my feet are free from…

US state wants to tax TVs, Video Games to fight Fat, fund Education

I don't support Government's intervention, and/or regulation of how people conduct themselves with respect to overweight and obesity, other than research and making sure products are safe. It's like "Big Brother."
