Do you know the difference between an organic and a natural food?

The hottest label claims right now are "organic" and "natural". Do you know the difference?

Organic foods were produced under environmentally friendly conditions with no antibiotics, growth hormones, fertilizers with synthetic ingredients or sewage sledge, pesticides, bioengineering, or ionized radiation.

The label claim "100% Organic" is the highest standard a food can receive and is allowed on single ingredient foods (fruits, vegetables, meat,… Continue

Just Checking In

I've been rather conspicuous by my absence around here lately. Many things on my mind and much taking up my time. I'll try to be better about checking in regularly. Thanks to those who expressed concern and support when I talked about my daughter's marital problems. Her divorce is now final and we are all trying to move on and create a new life. We have some cleaning and purging to do on this house and then we will be listing it for sale. We want to move closer to friends and family.

I love you... regardless.

This is a column I wrote a few years ago. One of our readers sent me an email sharing how much she loved it. Knowing our readers are not only reading the current issues, but also the archives makes me smile.

The light each issue shines doesn't dim simply because it's no longer the current issue and that is truly a beautiful thing.

My sister has the most wonderful phrase - "I love you, regardless".…

Artichoke, Anyone?

While cruising the produce aisle of your favorite grocery store, have you ever passed by a display of artichokes and spontaneously reached out and grabbed one? Do you remember what happened? Yikes, right? One of the little thorns at the tips of this odd-looking vegetable may (or may not—maybe it only wanted to attack me!) have pricked you. This more than likely caused you to toss… Continue

The Mediterranean diet contains an increased level of monounsaturated fat compared to the typical American diet. Monounsaturated fat is a type of heart… Continue

It sounded ominous.

We were considering buying a house and the economy seemed shaky, so it was a good time to tighten our belts, she… Continue
