It seems I can’t drive anywhere in town these days without passing a roadside stand selling cherries. Guess what? That’s a good thing. Besides all of these local entrepreneurs competing for my patronage, the grocery stores are overflowing with these sweet (and tart), delicious fruits. Living in California, and the fertile San Joaquin Valley, I take it for granted that… Continue

Actually, most times I feel like a nut, in more ways than one. If you were to ask my wife, other family members, or any of my close acquaintances, most, if not all, would agree that I tend to conduct myself in a nutty fashion from time to time. Hey, I admit I can be a tad goofy, but that doesn’t make me a bad person, does it? No, it just makes me a bit nutty.… Continue

While cruising the produce aisle of your favorite grocery store, have you ever passed by a display of artichokes and spontaneously reached out and grabbed one? Do you remember what happened? Yikes, right? One of the little thorns at the tips of this odd-looking vegetable may (or may not—maybe it only wanted to attack me!) have pricked you. This more than likely caused you to toss… Continue

We all do it, even without realizing we do it. Some of us do it more than others, while others do it a lot more than some. We do it in the morning, sipping our caffeinated beverage of choice (you know what… Continue
We all have weaknesses, encompassing myriad aspects of our lives, be it health and fitness challenges, personal development and growth issues, or career and relationship struggles. And then there are food weaknesses. For me, I have a soft spot for salty snacks, like potato chips. I have also been also known to power down copious amounts of… Continue

The other day, while reading the newspaper (and ignoring my computer), I made a discovery that made me smile, put the paper aside, boot up my laptop, grab a handful of walnuts, and create this video:
WHAT ARE SUPER FOODS?
This is exciting news for me because I have been promoting healthy dietary choices on this blog and at livelife365.com for years, foods that if eaten regularly can help… Continue
One of my favorite hobbies is traveling, visiting new places, or revisiting old haunts, and exploring all that those areas have to offer. During these explorations, I often find myself seated at a table, fork in hand, excited to indulge in the local culinary offerings. My ultimate quest is to discover the best eggplant Parmesan trattoria or tastiest pizza palace. I also… Continue
Where’s the sun? Is it freezing in here, or is it just me? Pass the Kleenex…ah, could you hurry…ah…ahh…ahhh. Sniffle, sniffle. Hey, are there any more holiday cookies left? Is your brother ever going to leave our guest bedroom? Man, I feel like…hold on…ah…ahhh…ahhhh...
2008 has been a year for the books, filled with amazing highs and devastating lows, for the world and for me, personally. But you can probably say that about most years, given that during the course of 365 days a lot is going to happen, both good and bad. Sure, this past year has seemed to have more than its share of misery, but I prefer to dwell on the positive, on… Continue
Is there anything worse than being on a diet during the holidays? How about being on a diet period? Even if you’re not on a specific weight reduction/maintenance program, but are just practicing healthy eating habits (like my high-fiber diet), holidays, especially family gatherings around the dinner table, can be a challenge.… Continue

Life is all about choices. Take the recently completed presidential election. Millions of Americans were offered a ballot filled with multiple choices. From those choices, we analyze, ponder, discuss, weigh the pros and cons, then make our selections. While a national election is a major event that challenges our decision-making prowess, the personal choices we all make every day of our lives are equally, if not more, important.… Continue
It's hard to image not flossing my teeth every day as part of maintaining my oral hygiene and overall daily health routine. But it wasn't always like that. I used to loathe the dentist and never flossed. All that changed after a lengthy chat (and painful reminder of tooth neglect) with my hygienist, and the understanding that not only is a healthy mouth good for your teeth and gums, but vital for your overall health as well.
Please enjoy this video on how to floss your teeth in one… Continue

During my recent visit Back East to,
among other things, attend my brother‘s wedding, I also stumbled upon a serendipitous epiphany of gourmet delectability.
Huh?
Big words (just showing off) that merely mean: My Mom Makes One Mean…Continue

As much as I love eating avocados today, it's hard to image that I didn't taste my first one until I was well into my twenties. I grew up in a small town in a small New England state. Our foods of choice leaned more toward clam cakes and chowder than tacos and enchiladas. Avocado? I hadn't a clue what one was.
And don't even get me going about… Continue
At some time in all of our lives we need to lose weight, get in shape, eat healthier, or face the difficult battle with overcoming addictions with tobacco, alcohol or drugs.
No, this is not a post about an all-girl, British rock band from the '80s. But it would be a cruel summer if I didn't mention that my lovely wife is a huge '80s music aficionado and becomes exceptionally elated whenever Bananarama plays on the radio.… Continue
I understand that this is a health and fitness blog, and I do write about those topics quite often. But livelife365, both my video site and my blog, is about more than just healthy eating and diet tips; it is about LIFE! With that in mind, I also write about other topics that interest me.
I recently had an interesting/amazing/surreal life event happen to me while participating in my brother's… Continue
As you know, Iowa Avenue is one of the best sites around when it comes to health, fitness, diet, exercise, nutrition, and all things that are good for you. I advocate all of these things on my website, livelife365.com. But one other thing that I love to do is make people laugh. And while laughter will not help you lose weight or get that belly flatter, it IS good for you. Very healthy for you!
With that in mind, I would like to share my latest music video, "I Miss My… Continue
