Fruits and Veggies

When my children were growing up, I used to follow the 5 a day rule.

For example, in the afternoon, they might ask me if they could have some ice cream, and I’d always ask them how many fruits and veggies they’d eaten. If the answer was any less than 4, I’d tell them to grab an apple or banana. By the time, they eaten the additional fruit, they were full and had forgotten all about the ice cream.

In the spirit of 5 a day, I’m going to feature 5 days of fruits and 5 days of vegetables: different varieties, different uses, and different recipes.

Here are 10 reasons to eat at least 5 fruits and vegetables per day:

  1. Helps you lose weight
  2. High in Fiber content
  3. Provides Vitamins and Minerals
  4. An easy Grab-n-Go snack
  5. Adds color to your meal
  6. Adds texture to your plate
  7. Lots of variety available
  8. Tastes great!!
  9. Helps reduce your risk of disease
  10. Keeps your stomach full

Feel free to add more reasons to these 10 benefits for eating fruits and vegetables. Have you had your 5 a day today? If so, which 5 did you choose?

If not, are you going to shoot for 5 a day tomorrow, because

After all, it’s about a healthy lifestyle!

@Christine It's so true. Most people think it's impossible to get the recommended number of fruits and vegetables, but just by adding a large salad, you're able to get 3 or more servings.

@ATD I love the color system, and I try to add as many colors as possible when fixing a meal...............:)
