Can doing push-ups help you get a tight ass?

You bet.

Two of Avenue members, Andrew at Andrewisgettingfit and Bill, Bill’s Training Blog are participating in the One Hundred Push-ups Challenge.

Frequently, as we share our common experiences here at Iowa Avenue, a common theme emerges. It is our inability or problems we discuss in keeping up a regular exercise regimen. Let’s try and change together by taking up the challenge which Bill and Andrew are putting forth.

Let’s all participate in their Hundred Push-Ups challenge by doing it with them, We’ll be their partners in crime, so to speak.

One Hundred Push-upsThis challenge is intended to take an individual from 0 push-ups to 100 push-ups in six weeks, working out three times per week.

Can women keep up with the men, even if some of us aren’t in our 20’s anymore?

By following the guidelines as outlined in their blogs, we should be able to keep up with the guys. The only concession I'm making is to do my push ups via the “girl” level--, starting them on your knees.

After we maintain this regimen for awhile I should be able to switch over and do the “male” version where you’re pushing-up from both your feet and your hands. BTW, another woman who's taking up the challenge is Karen over at KarenSugarpants.

Remember to check with your physician before starting any exercise routine, and also pay attention to what your body is telling you—if it’s too much for you, don’t do it.

I blogged about the health benefits of push-ups before, and at that time, I wasn’t able to do the number of push-ups that are the national average:

A “40-year-old woman should be able to do 16 push-ups and a man the same age should be able to do 27. By the age of 60, those numbers drop to 17 for men and 6 for women.” By following the guidelines of the challenge, I’m hopeful that all of us will be able to both meet and even surpass these numbers.

The Discussion Forum

I’ve set up a discussion forum about this: One Hundred Push-ups

Let’s all share our own trials and tribulations and post them as well. I’ll be updating mine at least twice a week including my progress about and how I’m meeting the challenge.

OK, guys and girls of Iowa Avenue, are you up for the challenge? Do you think you’ll be able to achieve 100 push-ups in 6 weeks?

Let’s find out and do this together, because,

After all, it’s about a healthy lifestyle!
