Growing up, every Sunday night meant watching 60 minutes, and what defined 60 Minutes more than Andy Rooney?

In the clip below, Andy Rooney tours a fresh fruit and vegetable stand in his usual humorous and iconic manner:

The next time you’re in the market, can you name that fruit? And kids, please try this at home, because,

After all, it’s about a healthy lifestyle!

This was cute. I was born in the Dominican Republic where there's an abundance of fruits you can't find in the U.S. My dad grew and still grows all these fruits which to some may seem like a luxury to have, back home is necessisty. Some of my favorites are Mango, most people know these, but back home we had five different varieties so we had Mango options. You have not tried a mango until you try one fresh off the tree. I never buy mangos here because they are not as sweet or juicy as those back home so it's sort of a disappointment for me. Limonsillo grows in bunches. They are round with a tough, green skin and a soft, juicy, meaty inside, never any bigger than a large gumball; Papote is mostly used in fruit smoothies (Batidas de fruta). They have a rough exterior, shaped sort of like a large mango. I vaguely remember them having a very meaty inside and the taste, well I can't really describe the taste, but my shakes were always delicious, Papaya we ate like you would eat a cantaloupe or in a fruit smoothy and of course Bananas.

Recently I took the kids to a local market and the plan was to buy fruits that were new to us. We found the pomegranates (not new to me, but new to them), the persimmon, start fruit, and we tried a grapple. We all loved the pomegranate and would still be buying that one if it was in season- tangy but sweet little kernels of fruit, very different. The persimmon had a different taste, soft, sweet and meaty. The start fruit was not very good. I have had it before and it's usually light in flavor and sweet. This one tasted like it was picked too soon and it probably was. The grapple was interesting. It's an apple that taste like a grape. Very sweet and juicy.
