Iowa Avenue

Diabetes is costing Americans $174 billion annually, a figure that has increased by 32 percent since 2002, according to a study by the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

Dietitians (RDs) will charge anywhere from $75.00 and up for an initial visit which consists of one session of information gathering and education with their client. Most RDs will encourage follow-up visits. But clients are already in shell shock from the initial expense and follow up is unlikely. I am not knocking the charge – Dietitians deserve every penny and herein lies the problem.

My 2 cents:

If you have Diabetes:

1. Keep your weight under control. – Even a 10% loss in weight will bring down your diabetes bill.

2. Keep your blood sugar under control. Diabetes becomes more costly when blood sugars rise and complications ensue.

Solution:

Iowa Avenue offers Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator support for less than the cost of your daily dose of “Starbucks”.

So what does email support entail:

First, we get to know you by reviewing your:

o medical history
o lab values and blood sugar results
o current eating and activity habits

After that, you and I will work on a plan based on the results you need and want. It is all very simple and we will periodically send reports to your doctor if you give us permission to do so.

We are always just an email away from any burning question you may have. For example:

How many carbs in this recipe?
I am going to a restaurant and want to know which is the best entrée for me to eat?
How much and what type of alcohol is the best for me to consume?
What should I eat at McDonalds to keep my blood sugar within range?
Please analyze my food intake and tell me why my blood sugar was so high?
I am experiencing lows, what am I doing wrong?
I want to lose 10 pounds, what do I need to do?
And the list goes on and on, but you get the idea.

We won’t email you a “canned” response. All email communication is personal and individualized.

We are result driven. To put it bluntly: We're obsessed with our client's results.
