Are you paying $1,660 to lose one Pound?

In a recent Diet Blog, author Mike Howard referenced a survey of 2000 young women, whose average age was 23.

The results revealed that for “every pound of weight lost by women during their lives will cost them a staggering £807 (approximately $1660) to achieve.”

This number is shocking. For every pound “lost” a woman pays on “average” $1,660. That is not taking into account the yo-yo affect.

Additional information from the survey includes the following results:

  1. They will spend up to up to £150,164 ($308,871 USD) over a lifetime on weight-loss schemes.
  2. Nine in 10 (90%) have gone at least a day without eating, with 30% of those going two or more days without food and 7% going more than four days without.
  3. A fifth (20%) have followed a pattern of having an “eat day” followed by a “non-eat day” and 47% claim to only eat one meal a day.
  4. More than half (53%) of those questioned said a diet to them meant eating less than 1,000 calories a day and a fifth (20%) said it was eating less than 800 calories a day.
  5. A third (34%) has taken slimming pills to lose weight, 30% make themselves sick and 11% have taken speed or cocaine to step up their metabolism.
  6. One in 10 women said they have lost half a stone in a week (7 lbs) and 6% claim to have lost a stone in two weeks
  7. The survey found women typically start these bad habits as early as the age of 15.
  8. Women start a diet around four weeks before a big event.
  9. Eight out of 10 women want to be a size 10 or under, with 40% thinking a size 10 is perfect.
  10. Around a third (30%) want to be a size eight, and 9% want to be a size six or under.

Despite all the information available, from varied and trusted sources regarding proper weight loss and healthy eating, the survey clearly evidenced that people want to lose weight using misleading information or plans that are shallow, false, and deceptive.

How is it possible that women do this to themselves? And think that they are doing the right thing?

The media, society, and peer groups trigger emotional responses in people that make them feel guilty about their weight, which in turn, compels them to use deceptive and false information because they were lured into diet traps and myths.

As Iowa Avenue and Weight1Minute™ have stressed, losing weight is not about starving oneself or taking pills. You determine what and how much food you will eat and what is good for you. No one is forcing people to eat unhealthy foods—but as demonstrated, the “diet” industry has a vested interest in keeping people ignorant.

To use an analogy on a different topic--“Only you can prevent forest fires,”
