October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month sees a nationwide blitz of advocacy for breast cancer research, prevention and treatment. Breast cancer, however, can strike at any time. The Iowa Cancer Consortium would like to sustain enthusiasm for breast cancer awareness beyond the 31 days of October. With support from the American Cancer Society, the Consortium has created an online forum—“Mammotives”—where Iowa women ages 40+ can talk about their experiences with breast cancer screening.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 4 Iowa women over age 40 have not received a mammogram in the past two years. We want to know the stories behind this statistic. Iowa women are invited to share their thoughts about getting a mammogram at http://mammotives.wordpress.com/. Women are encouraged to respond to both our featured questions and to the comments that other guests leave. Participants may provide their names or respond anonymously.
The information we gather will help us to promote the future health of Iowa women. So tell us, what are YOUR mammotives?
