Is All This Blood Sending The Wrong Message?

So, I taught my second official class today. I was very excited, because the class was full, and one of my buddies from our Tuesday night class was dropping in. So, as I'm setting up, she asks me "Did you hurt yourself?" and points to the back of my shoulder which, unbeknownst to me, is bleeding. Profusely. I got them settled and started the warmup while I cleaned the cut and put a bandage on it. But it bled through the bandage. So, a few minutes later, I put my cute little workout jacket on. And it bled through the jacket. Onto the reformer. For the entire class.

The thing is, I still have NO IDEA what I cut my arm on! After running errands and picking my son up from school (all the while thanking my lucky stars that I haven't gotten my hair cut in a while and it's long enough to hide the bloodstain), I came home and cleaned the cut some more. The think is, it's a teeny-weeny little scratch! I covered it with a band-aid!

Not the best way to inspire confidence in my students. Bleeding all over the place.

I really hope they come back next week, lol!

I'm sure they will...................:)

The body is a funny thing sometimes. When I was about 12, several of my friends and I were watching a hometown baseball game. One of my friends was sitting on the fence, you know, one of those fences with the crossed wires on the top.

After a few innings, we decided to go to the pool. My friend jumped down from the fence and started running with us to the pool. After a few minutes, I noticed her arm was bleeding. She looked down, fell down, and started screaming. She had cut herself on the top wires of the fence, and she was in great pain. The cut was pretty bad; her parents rushed her to the doctor, who put stitches in it.

In the end, everything was fine, but the thing that always struck me as strange is, until I noticed she was bleeding, and told her so, she wasn't in any pain, or at least didn't notice any pain.

Food for thought.................

That is interseting...kinda like a young child who falls, but doesn't have a reaction until an adult gasps or rushes over to make sure he's ok.

When my children were much younger, if they fell and it was just a "normal" fall, I'd wait for them to tell me, via crying or yelling, before I went to them. More often than not, they'd just get right back up, dust themselves off, and start all over again...................:)

I had an injury from one of those fences when I was a kid and...play eerie music...at a ball game. I was climbing it and one of the top cross wires punctured my stomach. I did not feel anything. When I got home I went to scratch...it had become itchy...and noticed a hole where there should be no hole. It was deep and not bleeding. After the iodine got poured into the wound, I felt pain! I still have a scar. It's funny how a tiny scratch can bleed buckets.

@Lisa, this is what I do as well with my kids. One of my best friends does kind of the opposite, so it's really interesting to watch the reaction differences. Each child is different of course, but in general I figure they are better off learning to recover from the minor things in life without making too big a deal of them.
