Wordless Wednesday: Art on Park

New York City is full of art. It's one of the things I love about it. I snapped some pictures of the...um...heads(?)...thumbs(?)...oh yeah, ART, on Park Avenue on my walk yesterday. You can find them here. Enjoy!

Wordless Wednesday Walkers

Los Angeles mixes many of our land uses with business, commercial, and residential developments. Even though these buildings appear to be far way, they are really within a spry walking distance.

Yesterday started well until...

I had bran cereal and skimmed milk for breakfast. Went to the gym. Good workout. Had grilled chicken and a salad for lunch. No soda, just water. Was full, no hunger pangs, nothing. Had dhal, rice and saltfish for dinner, not much, just enough to feel full. Lots of water throughtout the day. Sounds liek a good start. But then, along came fried chicken and fries and soft drink and guess what I do? Do I say, no thanks, I'm full? Do I think of the wonderful day I had so far and pride myself on my w… Continue

Switch from canned veggies to frozen.

Canned vegetables are high in sodium, while frozen vegetables (without added sauces) usually have no added sodium. Buy the large economy size bags, pour out the amount you need for your meal, close the bag with zip closure or twist tie and stick back in the freezer until next time! Making this change will significantly reduce your sodium intake, promote blood pressure control and heart health! Be sure to sign up for regular heart health and weight loss tips through… Continue

Some progress...

Finally, I can sign back in to Iowa Avenue. I've been having trouble with my browser. For some reason when I update my McAfee it messes with my Java console and makes my computer think I don't have Java. I try to download the latest version to fix this and it will download, but my computer still won't recognize it. I've been unable to post to any of my blogs, so I've been writing my daily blog in my AOL emails or on Word and saving them to post when I get my "POST" buttons back. I keep restoring… Continue

Are you still using Nutrition Labels?

Having been around since 1994, I have long touted the use of nutrition labels because I think they are one of the most valuable tools needed to determine what’s actually of value at the grocery store. As it was recently pointed out to me (v…

The Power of a Journal

I've Been Transforming! It seems like I've been on a spiritual journey this past month..... A 'vision quest' of sorts. I started one month and 2 days ago blogging abut my own personal weight loss efforts. On the very first day that was all it was to me... a weight loss. There is something, though, about the responsibility of creating a public record that has caused me to pause before I start each day, and really think about what I am doing, where I am going, who I want to connect… Continue

Exercise and Eating Related?

Yesterday was confirmation that, for me, exercise and eating habits are related. I had planned on going for an hour-long, hard ride on my bike. I always check my tires to make sure they have enough air and that my bike is good to go. While checking, I noticed the front tire was just a little low. No problem. There is a gas station on my route where I can fill up. It's a couple miles from… Continue
