Stressed? Physical Activity can Help

One of the huge benefits of regular physical activity is the way it helps us handle stress and other emotional aspects of our lives. We all have things that get us worried or stressed –whether it’s family, work, school, our health, or anything else. Regular exercise can help. Here’s what Dr. Stephen Aldana, professor of lifestyle medicine at BYU, had to say in his book The Culprit and the Cure: “A review of 34 studies showed that sedentary individuals who started engaging in physical activity… Continue

Walk My World

I’ve always wanted to walk to various locations, but knew I’d never be able to do it, so I’m going to do it virtually.

I tried this once before, but abandoned the idea for two reasons. First being that the map creating si…

Dont I want it enough?

Thats what I've been asking myself. I know what I want but I cant seem to stick with the chosen formula. Why? Every single day is a mental battle. Eat this pastry, put it down, eat it, leave it. Its just another pound u dont need. The end result? Some days I leave it, I dont even notice i… Continue

I’m No Lone Ranger: Introducing My Support Team

Since I have started blasting fat from 302lbs down to my current weight of 268lbs I haven’t been doing it alone, I couldn’t have! I believe in the fact that successful weight loss is sustained through outside support and community. If you are trying to lose fat, get fit, etc then… Continue

Wordless Wednesday Walkers

For today’s WWW I’d like to emphasize the green in our life.

If each one of us took the time to make our city a little bit better by conserving and preserving, the planet will be a better place.

Hey, it’s a self-portrait!…

You Just Might Live To Be Old Anyway

I have a feeling I'm going to live a long life. Long living genes happen run in my family... take for example, my grandma who died when she was almost 90 and her husband who died at age 96. Of course, let me not forget my other, rather spunky, grandpa who died one week shy of his 100th birthday! His 100th!! I can't even imagine what it must be like to live 100 years, and to be honest, I think I'd be happy to move on at… Continue

Whole grain - New health claim for brown rice.

I've always recommended clients make a switch from white rice to brown rice as a way to boost dietary fiber intake. A diet high in dietary fiber (ideally 25-35 grams/day) is linked with reduced heart disease risk by lowering LDL and total cholesterol levels. The FDA just approved a new ruling that will allow brown rice to use a health claim on its label. So, when you're shopping for groceries, be on the look out for the new whole-grain logo added to the brown rice packaging and don't forget to… Continue

For the Love of Triathlon

Last weekend I did another triathlon. This one was a pretty short one (400 meter swim/10 mile bike/5k run), but still fun and still an accomplishment. I love participating in and finishing triathlons -anyone who has done one knows they are kind of addicting. I had a time of 1 hour 19 minutes. It was good enough for 41st out of 200 participants overall and 6th of 23 participants in the Male 20-29 division. This was the first time I've finished in the top half of a tri so I was pretty pumped abou… Continue

"Dancers are the Athletes of God." ~Albert Einstein

Depending on the dance steps and intensity, you could burn anywhere from 300 to 700 calories per hour by dancing to your favorite tunes. Here is one of my favorites. Santana and Rob Thomas: Smooth So, Let's Dance: Continue

19th Weigh-In: 2lbs for an Inactive Man

I am really pleased about this week's weigh-in, I have lost another 2lbs and I didn't have any workouts this week as I hurt my back on Monday and had to rest it this week.

My back is good and feels strong so I'll be back in action again tomorrow with my workouts.

This week I am looking at doing a pyramid style of workout; going from really heavy weights on the first set and then decreasing my…

Speaking of Motivation

Do you need a little motivation?

When you look into your pantry and see that bag of chips that shouldn’t be there, what stops you from eating it? Is it thinking about your children? How about that favorite blouse that’s too small now? Maybe it’s the fact that you can breathe better now that you’re exercising more.

Everyone is always looking for a new idea for motivation.

One idea I like is to hang a sign on the pantry door. So, I made a couple that might…

Too much exercise? Is there such a thing?

I read about it. Did the research. Talk to the ppl. The formula, is simple. intake> output= fat intake< output= weightloss intake=output = maintenance So I figure, all I had to do, was to limit my calories and increase my activity. Healthier choices, more exercise. Been doing weight training at the gym every day and walking every other evening. Yesterday, my legs felt tired. Just my legs, not me per se. I felt like there was an extra 10lbs added to every footstep. And I was wondering, a… Continue

The court of last divorce

One more signature and the divorce would be final. They had tried everything to stay together. Marriage counselors, gurus, and even low fat yogurt. Nothing seemed to put an end to their non-stop fighting and threats. So instead of celebrating their 20th anniversary in Las Vegas, hitting the casinos and getting a tan by the pool, Jamie and Ronald were waiting in court to get the world's fastest divorce. Judge Walter Sanders, who was decked out in full legal regalia, wasn't a big talker. He just… Continue
