Poll Feature: What type of container do you like to drink your coffee from?

I thought it might be more fun to put the poll in the discussion forum. Let's give it a try:

Do you have a question you'd like to ask on Iowa Avenue? Just email me...............

Ok, who voted for "Paper Cup?"

The funny thing is I do use a ceramic mug sometimes, but I actually prefer a glass mug - we have a couple that are my favorite.

Oh, I prefer everything in glass - plastic and teflon coating are hazardous to our health. Some ceramic mugs are as well. And definitely, stryrofoam. I always choose glass. Choosy mothers choose glass. Hey, where's glass mug?

Sorry, Metroknow and ATD, I didn't think of glass mug because I've only used them a couple times. But, I suppose that would fit into the "Other" category............:)

Funny you should have this poll. I was just thinking about this new addiction I have to having my coffee in a foam cup with a straw. It started with my son and I getting our morning coffee at the little place near his work. (actual coffee, not latte or mocha). They had 16 oz foam cups there and that is what we get. I got used to drinking it from a straw, plus the lid was handy if I took it out to the garage or with me in the yard.
I used to only drink from ceramic or glass mugs. Now, I hardly ever use a mug.
One thing, though, is that we do wash and re-use our cups, lids and straws, so even though they might eventually die, they don't go in the trash after one use.
I've been working on getting back to using a mug when in the house, but I think it's the straw thing. I'll have to find some TALL coffee cups.

It's funny - here in Oregon it's been my experience that a lot of smaller drive-thru coffee places provide a straw and a chocolate-covered espresso bean when you buy a "fancy" drink (I was a mocha guy for years). The straw always puzzled me, being not from around here, and all it took was a time or two of searing my tongue by sipping hot coffee from a straw to make me skiddish. :) That said, it certainly is convenient when you're driving, trying to hold your cel phone, writing down notes, reading the paper, eating a donut, looking at your GPS, and forgetting your turn signal is still on.

LOL. :)

In CA, as of July 1, you can only use handless phone devices..................:)

How many washes can your foam cup do before it falls apart?

Stainless steel travel mug when out and about...ceramic mug at home.

@Lisa
They actually last for quite awhile. My son started me saving them so that he would quit taking my glass and ceramic cups over to his friends. (he walks and would just take his coffee along, but forget to bring the cup back.)
Then I started using them when I worked in the garage. As long as you don't let them sit around for days with coffee in them (I'm sometimes forgetful), they do pretty good. I don't actually have to wash them, but rather just rinse them out with hot water. The first group lasted well over three months, but then he started leaving them places and so did I. I always take one in the car with me when I go anywhere.
We also have to have handsfree July 1st here in Washington. I have used handsfree in the car ever since I got a cell phone, but I prefer to wait until I'm not driving if I can. It distracts you even if you aren't holding the phone. I'm not a big fan of multi-tasking while driving. One time in Oregon while traveling to California, I saw a woman nursing her baby while driving down the freeway. She had pulled his carseat over to the middle of the bench seat and was leaned over him nursing him while she was driving. I was flabbergasted. (I happened to be in the passenger seat.)

Well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they last that long, but I still am.

What is a surprise is the mother nursing while driving. How is it possible?

The strangest thing I saw another driver doing while driving, is a man playing with himself. I mean literally, with the zipper down, hanging out, and playing with himself. How did I know this? Upon glancing at the car, I realized the man had his rear view mirror pointed down in such a way so the whole demonstration could be viewed by passing drivers.....................:)

I love drinking from a ceramic mug. But am beginning to use travel mugs to get my coffee from my favorite local coffee shop on the way to the office rather than a paper cup.
