About Me:
I am a writer, an artist, and a Pacific Northwest native. In addition to authoring several blogs and numerous Web sites, I have spent the last 10 years publishing possibly the most boring books that you've never read...those lovely pieces of disposable literature known as software programming guides. I am certified in a bunch of even less interesting computer science and security whatnots, and was the original writer of the official Xbox Developer's newsletter, X and the City, under the pseudonym The Xbox Cabana Boy.

My artwork has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, the Pasadena Weekly, and solo exhibitions. My panoramic technical diatribes can sometimes be read in the internals of your computer, although, as with most of the things I've published, you'll likely never see them because you stopped reading when you saw the word "software." And I'm OK with that. Otherwise, you can see much of my work on my blog, Metroknow.com, my health blog, AlmostFit.com, and humor pieces on my new self-indulgent humor site, bedarkened.com.

Who needs a treadmill when you've got Briggs and Stratton?

I spent the day today mowing our yard. This may sound trivial if you have not seen our yard. I was mowing for almost 8 hours - we are on an acre, and due to some semi-sadistic character flaw that I have since gotten treatment for, I apparently thought it was a good idea to use mowing my lawn as exercise, so I purchased a lawnmower. Now it is self-propelled to a degree, but it really only propels itself when the bag is 90% empty. And when you don't mow your back 1/2 acre for like, a month, or two… Continue

Friday Stress Relief - Laughing Yoga

I think most folks have seen this, but it is one of my favorite stress relieving videos on YouTube. Even funnier? He is serious - and laughing. I used to live in the Pasadena area, and he has a Yoga studio on Lake Ave. in Pasadena. If you haven't seen it already - enjoy. Continue

20 tactics to kill the fast food habit - Fox News blogs picked it up, and it's going crazy

I did an interesting little experiment yesterday on Almost Fit. Well, in truth it was more of a "fix up" after I rethought my original post on quitting fast food. The first version was just too long, and after seeing it delivered to my inbox (yes, I admit it - I am on my own blog's mailing list), I realized nobody in their right mind would read the whole thing. So, after thinking it over, I decided to revise history. I broke the article in half and reposted it as two pieces last night, with a… Continue

Exercise is starting to happen for me - that tends to happen when you quit your job....

I may write a post about this on Almost Fit, but I just couldn't wait...Essentially I have started to exercise regularly. I say started meaning that I've been walking a few times a week for a couple of weeks now, and I can tell that it is getting under my skin. I am actually looking forward to it now, which is an awesome mental shift for me. A few things have changed very dramatically in my life recently. Not the least of which is I've quit my job to pursue personal projects. AND, that means -… Continue

French Paradox article featured on GetFitSlowly.com

Have you ever wondered why it seems that the French can get away with eating everything we’re told not to eat, and still live 3 years longer on average, without exercising more than we do, taking 6 week vacations, and 2 hour lunches? I’ve written a guest post this morning for the good guys over at GetFitSlowly.com. In an article yesterday, I mentioned their site briefly as one of my inspirations for Almost Fit, so it was really exciting when J.D. agree… Continue

Oh Wow - Great Find Lisa! LOL boy the design elements look familiar, eh? One of my design inspirations was Orangette (great blog, btw), and the design is very similar.

Thanks for the pointer - this is a definite addition to my regular spots.
