Hometown:
Idaho Falls, Idaho
Relationship Status
Single
About Me:
I'm 59, overweight, and diabetic. Also I have a beautiful daughter and 4 rambunctious grandchildren. I have chronic health problems one of which is pancreatitis. This means what I eat doesn't always digest properly. I am plagued by frequent nausea and diarrhea. Trying to follow a healthy diet including fruits and vegetables exacerbates this problem. Some days I live on cheese and toast (or crackers) - it's all I can tolerate.

I move from my chair to the computer and back again. Occasionally I go upstairs to do laundry or visit with my kids. I try to either work out with an exercise tape or take a walk everyday - however, there are many things that interfere with that goal.
What diets have you tried?
Weight Watchers, ADA
What things do you want to do before you die?
I've never considered life in those terms. What I want to do every day is give as much as possible to others, live so as to make my mother proud, love 'til it hurts.

Walking

I took a long walk beside the Snake River yesterday just before sunset. There were quite a few others out enjoying the evening and the river. I had forgotten the smell of the river. It was a beautiful evening and a lovely walk. A great way to end the day.

Nutri-System, Jenny Craig

I see a lot of ads and celebratory endorsements for Nutri-System and Jenny Craig - diets where you do no meal-planning, preparation, or decisions. The claim is that you get good tasting, nutritious meals and lose weight without effort. The ads make these programs sound very tempting. Has anyone had experience with this type of program? Do they actually work? Is the food edible? Diana, as a dietitian and nutritionist what is your opinion? I have often thought that I might eat better if I didn't h… Continue

Ask The Dietitian

Diana, I have a question for you. I've seen the late-night commercials for different kinds of juicers. Tonight I saw yet another ad for the Jack LaLanne juicer and I started thinking. From what I've read about gastroparesis I need to be careful about the kind and amount of fiber I eat. At the same time I know I need to eat more fruits and veggies as part of a healthy diet. Would one of these juicers be a good tool for someone like me? Is this a reasonable way to get more nutrition without runnin… Continue
